NABCEP, the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, is a non-profit that certifies solar and storage professionals. Its PV Installation Professional certification requires documented installation experience and a passing exam covering design, installation, commissioning and maintenance, and certificants must renew it. It is not a state license: installers still need whatever contractor or electrical license their state requires. Asking whether the person leading your installation is NABCEP certified is a quick quality check, and you can confirm a certification in NABCEP's online directory. Our installer pages explain which state license applies and link to the official lookup.
