Kansas Net Metering and Solar Export Credits

Updated Data verified Nov 5, 2026

Net metering. Evergy and the other investor-owned utility must offer net metering: exports offset your usage at the retail rate within each monthly billing period, and any net excess left at the end of the month is credited at 100% of Evergy's monthly system average cost of energy, which is well below retail. HB 2527 (2024) raised the program cap toward 5% of peak demand and, for systems interconnected on or after July 1, 2026, limits generating capacity to no more than 50% above the system's export capacity.

State rules that apply

  • What the rule says: “all such net excess generation remaining in such customer-generator's account at the end of each billing period shall be credited to the customer at a rate of at least 100%”[1]

What it means for sizing and batteries

When exports earn close to the retail price, sizing the system to cover your yearly use is usually the best value, and a battery is mainly for backup rather than savings.

The calculator uses the statewide rule until we add utility rates. See what solar costs in Kansas.
