What NV Energy pays for exported solar
For a new rooftop system, NV Energy credits exported energy at about 8.72¢ per kWh[1], against an average Nevada residential price of 13.36¢[2]. Exports first offset what you use over each month at the retail rate; this rate applies only to the surplus left over.
Other Nevada utilities, co-ops and municipal utilities set their own rates; check your utility's current tariff.
State rules that apply
- What the rule says: “The net metering rate will remain 75% of the retail rate unless modified by legislative action.”[3]
What it means for sizing and batteries
When exports earn much less than retail, each kWh you use at home as it is produced is worth more than one you export. Size to your daytime and evening use, shift loads (laundry, dishwasher, EV charging) to sunny hours or the plan's off-peak window, and price a battery against the gap between the retail and export rates.
The calculator uses the statewide rule until we add utility rates. See what solar costs in Nevada.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Nevada have net metering?
Under AB 405 (2017), NV Energy must offer net metering to systems of 25 kW or less, with excess energy credited at a declining share of the retail rate; Tiers 1-3 are closed and new customers receive Tier 4 credit at 75% of the retail rate. In northern Nevada, applications approved on or after October 1, 2025 default to NMR-2025, which nets usage every 15 minutes instead of monthly.
