State rules that apply
- What the rule says: “crediting or paying the customer for the net energy supplied to the utility at the utility's energy rate pursuant to this 17.9.570 NMAC”[1]
What it means for sizing and batteries
When exports earn close to the retail price, sizing the system to cover your yearly use is usually the best value, and a battery is mainly for backup rather than savings.
The calculator uses the statewide rule until we add utility rates. See what solar costs in New Mexico.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does New Mexico have net metering?
PRC rule 17.9.570 NMAC requires utilities to offer net metering to qualifying facilities. Excess generation in a billing period is credited on the next bill either as a payment/credit at the utility's energy rate or as carried-forward kilowatt-hour credits.
